NICU Ambulance Campaign

Phoebe is the premier Children's Miracle Network hospital in Southwest Georgia

The need:

Phoebe is proud to have one of Georgia’s six state-designated regional perinatal centers and is the only hospital in our region dedicated to sick newborns. Due to our large 22-county service area (shown below), our transport team is in the field weekly picking up newborns from other hospitals to bring them to Phoebe’s NICU for higher care. We currently have 2 NICU ambulances and they are nearing end of life and are frequently needing repairs. We want to ensure our region has a state-of-the-art NICU ambulance that is always ready to care for infants who need us across southwest Georgia. This new ambulance will help save hundreds of tiny lives each year.

We would love your help making the new NICU ambulance a reality. The ambulance costs $280,000, and every dollar donated helps us get closer to the goal. Thank you for your support and commitment to our tiniest patients.

More information and statistics:

  • Phoebe has completed 172 NICU transports Aug 2019- Aug 2020. Some of these babies weigh less than a pound.
  • Out of 650 NICU babies Phoebe treated in 2019, 174 of them needed transport and used our NICU ambulance.
  • In 2019, our NICU transport team spent 870 hours on the road and traveled 28,416 miles to transport critically ill infants. The farthest trip was 438 miles round trip to Augusta Health University.
  • The new NICU ambulance will be completely customized, making it a state-of-the-art mobile NICU
  • The ambulance will be able to accommodate 2 infants
  • It is the safest ambulance on the market. It is the only “box” that has been crash tested to evaluate its safety. This will ensure the safety of our babies and the team.
  • It will have 5-point harnesses as seatbelts to allow staff to treat babies without having to unbuckle or pull over to perform procedures.
  • It will have the latest technology that will allow the team to speak with physicians using Bluetooth technology over the radio system (hands free) when needed.
  • The ambulance will have a powerload system that is the safest way to get an isolette into the back of the ambulance. The transporter will load itself and relieve the team of having to lift it into the back. Watch this video to demonstrate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67KvhtNl4mQ

Cost:
