Volunteer with Phoebe Sumter Hospice

Volunteers are an integral part of the hospice care team. They offer a gentle presence, a helping hand and a compassionate ear. Whether preparing a light meal, playing a game, sharing in conversation, laughter or even a tear, hospice volunteers provide care, compassion and companionship to patients and family members.

Our volunteers visit hospice patients in their homes, in the hospital, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities. Other volunteers may serve in programs such as spiritual care, bereavement, memorial services, patient parties, summer camps, and clerical/office support.

All of our volunteers are very qualified and go through a comprehensive training program that covers physical, spiritual and emotional issues surrounding hospice care. Volunteers also receive hands-on training provided by professional staff and are presented with on-going educational opportunities to strengthen and develop their skills.
